From Rozhniativ to Chortkiv: Strengthening International Cooperation

September 10, 2025

As part of his trip to the opening of the solar power plant in Rozhniativ, Andreas Dreisiebner from Solarspar (Switzerland) took the opportunity to visit the town of Chortkiv in the Ternopil region, a shining example of how visionary local leadership can attract global attention and investment.

Chortkiv has gained international recognition thanks to the active leadership of Mayor Volodymyr Shmatko, whose ongoing commitment to diplomacy and sustainability continues to open doors for collaboration. Mayor Shmatko, widely known abroad, personally accompanied the delegation throughout the entire visit, underscoring the city’s dedication to transparency, partnership, and international engagement.

During the visit, Mayor Shmatko, Deputy Mayors, and the community’s energy manager Yana Bondarenko presented the flagship initiative “Solar Chortkiv”, the first large-scale, systematic project in Ukraine focused on transitioning a municipal sector to renewable energy sources.

Key results and future plans:

12 solar power stations already operational (total capacity: 521.4 kWh)

5 more solar plants to be installed in 2025, adding 125 kWh

Target: 1.1 MW of solar energy to power municipal institutions

Expected annual budget savings: approx. 225,000 EUR

CO₂ emissions reduction: 557.94 tons/year

Following the presentation at the City Council, Andreas, together with the Ukraine2Power team, visited several key local facilities, including the wastewater treatment plant, the solar power station at Chortkiv Central City Hospital, and the “Chortkiv Unites” social housing complex. These visits provided firsthand insight into the impressive strides Chortkiv has made in sustainable development and energy transition.

After the Chortkiv visit, the delegation headed to Kyiv for a series of high-level meetings focused on expanding international partnerships and accelerating Ukraine’s green transition.
