🎥 Light and Heat Keep a Kindergarten Running in Sumy Region, Despite Power Outages
Just in time for the most difficult weeks of winter, Ukraine2Power installed a 20 kW inverter and a 100 kWh battery storage system at Kindergarten Sonechko No. 1 in Ukraine’s Sumy region. The system ensured reliable heating, lighting, and water supply despite ongoing power outages.
💭 “The batteries and the inverter really saved us. If they had not been installed, the system would have frozen, and we probably would not have been able to operate at all.”
This is how Valentyna Shnipko, Director of Kindergarten Sonechko No. 1 in Chupakhivka, in the Sumy region of Ukraine, describes the past months.
While distributing emergency heating kits in Kyiv to families in critical situations and to the most vulnerable groups, we were also working on longer-term solutions. One of them was this kindergarten.
The initiative began with a family in Germany who started raising funds. The remaining funding was later secured, allowing the work to move forward.
In November, our CEO and Co-Founder Nataliia Fiebrig and our engineer Dmytro Solomchenko traveled together to the Sumy region to assess the site and prepare for implementation, despite very challenging conditions and the region’s proximity to the Russian border.
🔋 In January, Ukraine2Power installed a 20 kW inverter and a 100 kWh battery system at the kindergarten, just in time for the most difficult weeks.
The impact was immediate.
What had barely worked before began to function again.
Heating, lighting, water, and the kitchen became reliable.
Meals could be prepared on time, and the shelter could be properly used.
During this critical winter, children were able to stay warm, safe, and cared for.
🎥 In the video below, Nataliia Fiebrig speaks with Valentyna Shnipko about what this system meant for their daily life.
The more we implement sustainable solutions, the better schools and kindergartens are prepared, and the less they have to rely on emergency aid when the next winter comes.
