🌱 Just Energy Transition for Ukraine’s Coal Regions

June 25, 2025

A new stage of Power4JustTransition program has been officially launched — a crucial step toward a fair and sustainable future for Ukraine’s coal communities.

Our colleagues Viktoriia Mamoilyk (Deputy Director) and Kostiantyn Gura (Chairman of the Supervisory Board) took part in this landmark event, focused on helping coal regions shift to new economic activities in a way that is just, inclusive, and future-oriented.

🎙️ Miriam Faulwetter, the program’s director, delivered a powerful message: the contributions of miners and coal communities to Ukraine’s energy and economic development are deeply valued. The goal isn’t to replace their legacy — but to build on it, offering new opportunities through a green and resilient transition.

✨ Real success stories were shared, including a former miner who launched his own business.

🤝 The event also marked the signing of memoranda of understanding between GIZ Ukraine, government ministries, and local municipalities — a promising sign of collaboration and commitment. Energy transition for coal regions also holds great significance in the context of Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

🔋 At Ukraine2Power, we contribute to this transformation by supporting the move to clean, renewable energy solutions in local communities.
