Lyceum in Novopokrovka

March 3, 2025

Since the start of the full-scale war, the Russian army has been massively destroying civilian infrastructure. Almost 4,000 attacks on educational institutions have been recorded since the beginning of the invasion, and 365 have been completely destroyed.

Unfortunately, the hub yceum in Novopokrovka southeast of Kharkiv was no exception. In the summer of 2022, a Russian rocket hit a neighbouring private house, shattering all the windows in the lyceum and damaging the roof and windows of the outpatient clinic. Due to the constant shelling of neighbouring industry and the power plant, the children are under mental pressure, so the community organises weekly professional psychological support.

Vitsche Berlin, together with the Sergey Prytula Humanitarian Foundation, launched a fundraising campaign to reconstruct a lyceum shelter in the village of Novopokrovka to provide children with a safe learning environment. The shelter will meet safety standards and provide protection and essential amenities for 300 people during emergencies. The renovation is just about to begin.

🔋 Nataliia Fiebrig, co-founder and director of Ukraine2Power, became an Ukraine Amplifier in this project. Moreover, at the beginning of December last year, Ukraine2Power provided the lyceum with a mobile power system. The charging station is already in active use in a classroom.

The hub lyceum with 560 students is the only school and perhaps the only shelter for five neighbouring villages. Due to the lack of shelter, children have been studying online for more than two years. However, educational consultations are held at the lyceum every day. Our station is used to power the classroom, including a multimedia board, laptops, printer, etc.

💭 “Our teachers are very pleased that the charging station is on wheels and can easily be moved from one side to the other. The generator is very heavy, women cannot carry it. And there are no men in the school at all, only women. So this is a huge advantage. They are awaiting in advance that a shelter will be built and the station will be installed in the shelter,” – said Svitlana Alioshyna, deputy head of the village.
